BlackBerry 2Q Loss Narrows Despite Revenue Decline Sinking

BlackBerry’s loss narrowed in the second quarter even as revenue was down from a year earlier.

The Waterloo, Ontario-based security-software company on Thursday posted a loss of $42 million, or 7 cents a share, for the quarter-ended Aug. 31, compared with a loss of $54 million, or 10 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet expected a loss of 9 cents.

Revenue fell to $132 million from $168 million a year earlier, missing the $134.3 million expected by analysts polled by FactSet.

Chief Executive John Chen said the company is expecting a strong second half for its Cyber business and reiterated its full-year outlook for the segment.
