Canada’s Unifor Ratifies Contract With GM

Canadian auto workers union Unifor approved a tentative deal with General Motors on Sunday.

The 80.5% approval for the deal, which included pay raises of up to 25%, pension improvements and a $7,350 lump sum bonus, got more support than a similar deal struck with Ford last month.

Unifor will now turn its attention to Stellantis, the biggest employer in Canada of the Detroit Three unionized automakers. Those talks could be more difficult because Unifor local leaders have signalled they want more than Ford or GM delivered in their deals.
