Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the gained 0.49%, while the index climbed 0.52%.

The best performers of the session on the were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:), which rose 3.45% or 11.55 points to trade at 346.50 at the close. Meanwhile, UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:) added 2.31% or 189.85 points to end at 8,400.00 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:) was up 2.08% or 3.85 points to 188.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were UPL Ltd (NS:), which fell 4.59% or 25.65 points to trade at 533.00 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:) declined 1.82% or 11.65 points to end at 629.40 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:) was down 1.53% or 161.70 points to 10,399.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:) which rose 2.44% to 8,406.65, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:) which was up 2.04% to settle at 2,311.35 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:) which gained 1.30% to close at 924.50.

The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:) which was down 1.52% to 10,392.55 in late trade, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:) which lost 1.31% to settle at 988.65 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:) which was down 0.82% to 1,497.55 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1063 to 1005 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1845 rose and 1759 declined, while 194 ended unchanged.

Shares in UPL Ltd (NS:) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.59% or 25.65 to 533.00.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.36% to 11.49.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.36% or 7.15 to $2,005.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.23% or 1.05 to hit $84.49 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.12% or 1.00 to trade at $88.20 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.20% to 83.25, while EUR/INR rose 0.20% to 88.04.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 106.33.
